Homero Lopez, Ph.D. and Linda L. Garcia, Ph.D. are higher education consultants
who have shared their expertise on how flexible learning environments
(known as Learning Studios) can increase student engagement. Dr.
Lopez was the founding president of Estrella Mountain Community College
(AZ), where the learning studio initiative was pioneered.
Dr. Garcia completed her dissertation study on the students’
and faculty’s perceptions of the Learning Studio. She has
continued to research how the Learning Studios impact student
engagement at Eastfield College (TX). Also, Dr. Lopez and Dr. Garcia
are graduates from the Community College Leadership Program (CCLP) at
The University of Texas at Austin.
They have consulted and guided community colleges and universities on
how to utilize space as a tool to increase active and collaborative
learning, strengthen student/faculty interactions, and provide a
supportive learning environment. Also, they have presented
this topic at conferences.
